I love photographing children, because no session is ever the same, and your never know what to expect. I love the fact that your tiny client will keep you running on your toes, doesn’t mind you acting super silly, and you can take a gummie bear break at any time during the session and no one minds as long as you share.
Before every session, I always do a pre-consulation with the person I am going to photograph. I get to know them ahead of time and they get to feel comfortable around me. With children, it’s a must. Trust is so important with any client-as a portrait reveals so much more than what’s on the surface. With children, I never want them to shy away from the scene- I want them to be themselves.
I knew when I met with Gracie- we were going to have a great time! She had the cheekiest little two year old grin and the warmest brown eyes that could melt your heart. Plus she grabbed my hand and wanted to dance in her living room right then and there with me.
Daddy was working the day we planned the session and I noticed in the corner of the room his Aussie hat. I knew how important it was to include some elements of her culture and something to surprise her Daddy and her grandparents over in Australia.
Her darling personality shined through our session this winter
